Coin Supplies
For those who are very serious about collecting
coins and other valuables, the proper supplies are vital to the
enjoyment of the collection. No one ever wants to see handling marks
on the collection. The serious collector will even go to great
lengths to clean the grime of years of circulation and at times,
being buried in the dirt. These tasks require some coin supplies
though.
The first in a long list of supplies that one would need for a coin
collection would be the coins and a way to clean these coins. One
needs to be aware that cleaning a coin can lower the value of that
coin, so check with a professional before attempting to scrub any
grime off the coin. There a fewer feelings worse than that one gets
when they find that a priceless item was reduced to valueless
because of poor handling on their part. There are many good cleaners
on the market, and the directions should be followed to the letter
to provide the best results without damaging the coin. It is also a
good idea to get a soft-toothed gripper to handle coins with while
cleaning, since the cleaning agents can be irritating to the skin.
Once the coin is clean, the next most important supply for the
collector is a storage device. There are many different storage
devices on the market, and each has their own function and purpose.
There are tubes that allow for multitudes of the same coin to be
stored one on top of the other. There are boxes that allow
individual coins to be stored while not on display. There are
display cases and display boxes in glass or plastic that protect the
coin from dirt, contaminates, and handling while allowing the coin
to be displayed. There are coin capsules that enclose the coin and
allow for great viewing capabilities.
All of these supplies are readily available either on-line or at a
coin dealer. As with any hobby, having the right coin supplies can
make the difference between truly enjoying the hobby or becoming
truly frustrated with the hobby.
